Welcome.

On my site I share affordable fashion for the mature woman. I want other people to share in the excitement of being the best version of themselves at any age.

True Grit

True Grit

When my father dropped this hat by my house, I decided to stick with the movie theme and title this entry “True Grit”.  The Churchill hat I’m wearing belonged to my dad’s father, my Grand Dad Brown.  The best definition of “grit” I could find is “courage and resolve; strength of character”

This truly describes both my father, a proud Air Force veteran, and my grandfather, a brave pilot who flew all over the world.  Both men represent in my mind the kind of perseverance, passion and integrity associated with the characters of the famous movie and remake. (especially the young lady)

So I was proud to wear my grandfather’s hat all these years later on the streets of my city.  I hope my kids and grandchildren will someday talk of me having just a fraction of the character I think of when I wear this cherished hat.

When I was putting this outfit together, it was a no-brainer to go with the Military style coat made by Trouve. I think the lines in this coat are really sharp. I’ve had this coat for several years, so I guess you would consider it vintage. I kept the colors dark, because I wanted the hat to be the focal point. An outfit doesn’t have to be complex, it can be put together off of one single item, whether it’s a pair of shoes, belt, scarf  or today’s look - a hat.
